Noche Flamenca & Soledad Barrio-Spain’s acclaimed flamenco company performs

Napa, CA- One of Spain’s most elite flamenco companies, Madrid’s Noche Flamencamakes its Napa Valley debut at the Opera House with their pure, authentic brand of flamenco on Friday, October 12 at 8 p.m. The company, under the artistic direction of Martín Santangelo, features dancer and co-founderSoledad Barrio. Noche Flamenca devotes itself to preserving the essence, purity and integrity of the centuries-old genre of flamenco. Tickets are $35/$30.

Noche Flamenca’s Napa Valley Opera House performance features a new work created by Santangelo entitled La Mujer del Aqua, which will be premiered at the start of their U.S. tour in Connecticut later this month. Based on Ibsen’sThe Lady from the Sea and inspired by Ibsen’s character Ellida Wangel, Santangelo crafts a narrative-driven, theatrical representation depicting Ellida’s internal struggle for inner truth, personal freedom and ultimately, a chosen love.

Under the direction of Martín Santangelo, the award-winning Noche Flamenca has become Spain’s most successful touring company. Formed in 1993 by Santangelo and his Bessie award-winning wife, Soledad Barrio, the company regularly tours throughout the globe. More than 30 years in the making, The Napa Valley Opera House, a national historic landmark, restored the Margrit Biever Mondavi Theatre in June 2003, a second-floor theatre that was originally constructed in 1879. The NVOH 2007 Fall Season marks the fifth year of programming in the intimate 500-seat theatre, the “Jewel of Napa Valley” located in the heart of downtown Napa. Patrons experience an eclectic array of performing arts including theatre, dance, comedy, jazz, blues, world music, and family programming in a world class setting.
