Soul Street performers offer a hip hop dance workshop for participants of all ages. For information, call the box office at 707.226.7372. Space is limited.
As part of their West Coast tour, the four male street dancers of Soul Street will perform their special contemporary mix of choreography to the most popular music of the decades with music selections ranging from Count Basie to Elvis Presley, The Temptations, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson and more.
“There’s a piece for everyone in this show,” said Javier Garcia, Soul Street co-founder. “We’re dancing to the best music from each decade, from the 1920s to the 80s, from the Charleston to hip-hop. We want people to come out and have fun.”
The members of Soul Street will also be running a hip-hop workshop from 10am to 12pm on Saturday at the Opera House for $15. All ages are invited to attend but space is limited (call the box office at 707.226.7372 to sign up).
"This group is an incredible combination of energy, speed, innovation and just plain fun,” said NVOH Artistic Director Evy Warshawski. “Bring the family -- they will have a blast -- plus there’s an opportunity after the show to meet the artists.”
Soul Street Dance Company performances are a unique combination of entertainment and art. Attracting highly diverse audiences, they appeal to the young and old, male and female, all ethnicities and cultures. The show features a variety of dance styles and selections including a mix of hip-hop, classical and new dance styles with urban-fashioned costumes, and comic delivery.
Houston-based Soul Street was created by former members of Fly Dance Company. The group is known for their unique way of incorporating different styles of street dance. Under direction of Garcia and Rock Williams, Soul Street pushes the artistic boundaries in street dance while maintaining the true essence of the culture.
The company dates back to 1996 as a self-taught street crew competing for recognition in the Houston areas. They quickly caught the attention of the artistic director for Fly Dance Company. This is where they became the company's principal dancers and helped turn Fly into a national and international touring sensation.
